… but the NHFL was not dead!
In May 2019 we’ll be organizing the NHFL Championships, the spiritual successor to the NHFL. The event will be two days of tournaments, with four divisions: men’s longsword, women’s longsword, rapier & dagger and sabre.
Swords will be provided for the longsword and sabre tournaments, while R&D will be “BYOS”.
Dates
The event will be on Friday May 10th and Saturday May 11th.
Location
The event will be held at the Örebro University’s sports hall. (Google Maps link)
Getting there
For people who aren’t driving all the way to the event the easiest way to get there is to fly to Stockholm Airport Arlanda, which is about two and a half hours east of Örebro. From there you can either rent a car or take public transportation to Örebro.
The Arlanda airport’s website has a good overview of buses, trains and rental cars

Finals and after party
The finals party will be held in Globen, in Brunnsparken, a 15-20 minute walk away from our recommended accommodation. (Google Maps link). Getting to the venue by taxi from central Örebro is approximately 200 SEK total.
We will open the doors at 18:30. It is possible to bring food and drinks and have your dinner at the tables in the venue, where there are also several big refrigerators. You can find a pizzeria and a grocery store within 100 meters from the venue.
We plan to begin the fights at 20:00, but it depends a bit on when the competitions are done at the main venue. It will be possible to shower and change after the finals for the fencers so that they don’t have to party in their fencing gear.

Accommodation
We’re unable to offer sleeping at the venue, but Örebro has a wide range of hotels.
We can recommend two nearby options:
Rosängen offers cheap rooms and cabins. (Google Maps link)
Good Morning Hotel offers relatively cheap rooms. (Google Maps link)
Rules
We’ll be using the Nordic format familiar to people who have fought in the NHFL or at Swordfish.
Judges and other volunteers
If you’d like to attend the event as a judge or other staff without competing, please register for the event without signing up for any tournaments, or contact us directly at our Facebook page or by emailing nhflc2019@nhfl.nu, and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
Pricing and registration
The event will cost 900 SEK for the first tournament and 500 per any subsequent tournaments you register for.
Anyone judging the women’s longsword, R&D or sabre will receive a 150 SEK compensation, and anyone judging the men’s longsword will receive a 250 SEK compensation.
Registration has now closed. If you missed it and would still like to compete at the event, please email nhflc2019@nhfl.nu and we’ll see what we can do.
